In addition, students must complete short answer questions about themselves; if selected for further review by CMU’s Office of Scholarships & Financial Aid committee — meaning their initial application was chosen from among other applicants — an interview may be required.
Types of scholarships you can apply for

A need-based scholarship requires students submit an application detailing their family’s financial situation. The student must also fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form to determine eligibility.

It may take time, but you’ll eventually hear back from each of your scholarship applications. If you’re committed to winning as many scholarships as possible, it’s a good idea to mark these deadlines on your calendar.
Be Aware Of Award Deadlines
We often take for granted how easy it is to apply for financial aid, especially if you’re applying for scholarships, because you don’t have to submit an application. That is incorrect—scholarship applications are just as important as any other type of financial aid application. They might not be due in November or December, but that doesn’t mean you should put them off until then. Remember: deadlines loom closer than they appear.
Applying Tips for International Students (Non-US citizens)
The college application process can be hard enough for US citizens, but for international students it can feel like a maze. If you’re interested in studying in America, here are some tips on how to apply to CMU In addition to your transcript, high school diploma and English proficiency test scores (if applicable), applicants from non-English speaking countries must submit an essay written in English that details why they want to study at Central Michigan University.
Be sure that all essays are translated into English by someone qualified or they will not be considered during our review process.
Housing is very limited at CMU so we recommend students arrive early if possible to secure accommodations close to campus. Also, keep in mind that international student visas may not permit work off-campus without special permission so make sure you understand what your visa allows before taking a job outside of class time.
Tips for an Effective Scholarship Application
Most scholarship applications are similar. Don’t forget that many organizations like colleges, universities, state governments and non-profit organizations regularly offer scholarships to bright students with high financial need.
These organizations are constantly looking for motivated individuals with unique backgrounds who can succeed in their schools and contribute positively to their communities. The application will ask you questions about your background, education history, plans for the future and more, so it’s important that you take time before applying to determine what is important for each organization.
Your answers should show how your personal characteristics match up with those of successful applicants who have received funding from these organizations in past years.
